weekly inspiration: Video

Danny Elfman: Gratitude
I had a bit of a problem finding this video on the
information super highway,
because I always thought it was an Oingo Boingo song.
Turns out, the song is originally from Danny Elfman's
1984 solo record "So Lo"
and featured on the "Beverly Hills Cop" soundtrack.
Anyway, all the Oingo Boingo band members are in
the video and they definitely performed it at shows
plus it was later featured on the band's compilation
albums.
Either way I still consider it one of my favorite
Oingo Boingo songs (and videos):

I'm Back...

So I started this thing a year ago...
I stopped posting in December.
but now I'm back.

The Gaga effect:

Lady Gaga is everywhere.
I just can't get enough of her absurdly awesome personal style.
Great thing about being a popstar, you can dress however you want and get away with it.
It seems everyone has gone gaga.
I would never do it, but I did make Hilary do it!

Ad Campaign Ispiration:

  • Claudia Schiffer for Guess, 1990
  • Heidi Klum for Jordache, 2007
  • Brooke Shields for Calvin Klein, 1980
  • Cindy Crawford, 1994
These famous ad campaigns must have really been burnt into my head. Although, I was really young when most of these images made their impact, it seems that all of them could still be iconic if released today, and to me that is major.

We didn't plan to use them as inspiration, but after looking back at the photos it was pretty undeniable...

Take a look!

Project Hilary

Hilary Hawn is a stylist's dream...
She has a little, yet taller frame, she is super photogenic and she will wear anything I put her in! Not to mention, she is a super talented Singer/Song writer, which made our playlist for the day much more appealing than my trusty "pop mix". Therefore, making an amazing day to play dress up with a photoshoot.

All the clothes are a collabo from my vintage collection and her amazing shoe collection. So, let me know what you all think!

XO.

Follow Hilary on twitter.

Inspiration.

inspiration: arousal of the mind to special unusual activity or creativity.

I like to figure out what inspires a person to do what they do. Sometimes it's super easy:
  • Fiona Apple inspired Jon Brion
  • The Beatles inspired Bob Dylan whom both inspired The Beach boys
  • Seattle inspired the mass production of flannel, long johns and Doc's in the 90's and again last year.
  • Bette Paige inspired Dita Von Teese, who now has inspired everyone and their mother by bringing Glam back.
Random things can inspire one's creative endeavors, like Cory has said he is often inspired by architecture books and magazines and Jeff seems be inspired by simply talking to a stranger.

Lot's of different aspects go into inspiring someone to get dressed as well. Yet, nothing has been inspiring me, lately. I have my go to fashion Icons, who inspire my personal style daily. Which include (and not restricted to): The obvious David Bowie and Katherine Hepburn, and then there is Ben Harper and Fiona Apple. Although, they have inspired others musically, they are two of my favorites in fashion.

Ben Harper has a crazy man's style. He seems to love him some big time name brands and he often pulls off the random "worst dressed" rock star look, which I consider to be on the "daring and awesomely" dressed list. He mixes sporty, folk and bling, rasta and GQ with a little country and western. Now that I think about it, his personal style directly reflects the type of music he makes... imagine that!

Fiona Apple seems to be so uncomfortable in most pictures, which I think adds to her personal style. She most definitely makes whatever she wears her own! Whether it be awe inspiring vintage pieces or barely anything at all... she seems to take scissors, safety pins and add belts to things a lot, most likely to make things fit her small frame better, but it often puts her own twist on whatever it is she has on.

Personal style should be just that, your own take on what you wear. I think it should be as extensive as your itunes library, as miscellaneous as your season pass list on your tivo, as diverse as your family and friends and as bad and bold as the worst dressed list. Remember you CAN have too much of one thing, so do what you want to, whenever you want.

I think I am going to take a few of my girlfriends away for the night at let them be my dress up muses. Hopefully pictures will follow soon! XO.

Hello There!

Welcome to In The Lost And Found!

This Blog is The helpless little thing with the dirty mouth, who's always got something to say.
Red ropes and Gypsies, shoes you can't walk in and the survival of the wittiest. It may include the outdoors, blue grass, wheat grass and baseball. It will definitely include fashion, photography, DIY, glamorous vices, puppies, music, style, a ton of ever changing moods, dancing in the sand, broom prints, waking up with a Marlboro medium and any music with claps, snaps and stomps. The emotionally awkward are encouraged... and "this" of course. Random notes will be often: Mississippi John Hurt, Art, Gideon Boomer, String Instruments, Chloroform Days, Spy10, food for thought, food for pods, and food for feet. It'll be like a scar you can't see in the dark or working at 3am instead of a 9 to 5. My view of style icons with the likes of Weetzie Bat and My Secret Agent Lover Man. Really, this blog will prove: You can do what you want to, whenever you want to. Inspiration. but all together... just a real Big Nothing.

So come visit often and comment freely!

XO.
